Voting is nearly closed for the Audience Choice Award at the 6th Annual Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking and the category includes LGBT-inclusive documentaries How to Survive a Plague and Bully. The Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking “recognize and honor exemplary craft and innovation in nonfiction film.” Voting for the Audience Choice Award is open now at the Cinema Eye Honors website or by sending a message to @cinemaeyehonors on Twitter with the name of the film you are voting for. Hurry because voting closes at 12:00am EST TONIGHT!

How to Survive a Plague is an unflinching and powerfully moving look at how the activists behind groups like ACT UP forced the medical establishment into action following its tragically stunted response to the HIV/AIDS crisis.  The film, which made a big impact at its Sundance Premiere in early 2012 and opened in theaters this past September, also picked up Cinema Eye Honors nominations in Editing and Debut Feature Film. Watch the trailer below.

Bully takes an uncompromising look at the issue of bullying as it affects school children in the U.S. today. The MPAA caused controversy earlier this year when they gave the film an R rating. Openly gay high school student Katy Butler traveled from Michigan to L.A. to hand deliver over 500,000 signatures from her Change.org petition asking for the rating to be lowered. Distributor The Weinstein Company decided to release it as unrated instead and Weinstein Company chairman Harvey Weinstein presented a special recognition award to Katy at the GLAAD Media Awards in New York this past March. Check out the trailer for Bully below.

The winner will be announced on January 9 at the 6th Annual Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, New York. Vote now!
