Bully opened today in five theaters in Los Angeles and New York and will open in several other markets on April 13.  Whether you are seeing it this weekend or have to wait a few more weeks, there’s several ways you can get involved and spread the word about the film’s opening.

First, be sure to visit thebullyproject.com/social where the filmmakers have put together several tools to help social media users raise awareness about Bully.  There you can stamp your Twitter and Facebook profile pictures, donate your twitter background or find handy ways to share statistics about bullying.  And don’t forget to tweet pictures and share your experience by using the hashtag #BullyMovie.

The film is being released as unrated rather than with the ‘R’ rating the MPAA had originally assigned it.  Movie theaters have been making independent decision as to how they will allow patrons to see the film.  You can read about different guidelines for seeing the film here

Last week, Harvey Weinstein presented Katy Butler with a Special Recognition Award at the GLAAD Media Awards in New York.  Katy, an out teenager from Ann Arbor, MI, started an action on change.org in hopes to lower the 'R' rating assigned by the MPAA to Bully to 'PG-13.'  She collected over 200,000 signatures in just a week and delivered them personally to the MPAA.

The Weinstein Company has also teamed up with GLAAD to produce new PSAs featuring Glee stars Naya Rivera and Cory Monteith, as well as Jersey Shore's Vinny Guadagnino. Check out the videos below:
